What is Android?

Now day by day world is becoming smaller connecting through technology. In past first simple white and black mobile hand set used to communicate with each other.Starting from black and white phones to recent smart phones or mini computers, mobile OS has come far away. Especially for smart phones, Mobile OS has greatly evolved from Palm OS in 1996 to Windows pocket PC in 2000 then to Blackberry OS and Android.

Android is an OS created by Google™ for use on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. It’s an OS that’s available on devices made by a variety of manufacturers, giving you more choices of device style and pricing.

One of the most widely used mobile OS these days is ANDROID. Android is a software bunch comprising not only operating system but also middleware and key applications.

Founder of Android:

Android, Inc. was founded in Palo Alto, California in October 2003 by Andy Rubin(co-founder of Danger), Rich Miner (co-founder of Wildfire Communications, Inc.), Nick Sears (once VP at T-Mobile), and Chris White (headed design and interface development at WebTV) to develop.

From Wikipedia, “Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google, based on the Linux kernel and designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Android’s user interface is mainly based on direct manipulation, using touch gestures that loosely correspond to real-world actions, such as swiping, tapping and pinching, to manipulate on-screen objects, along with a virtual keyboard for text input”.

Latest Version:

The latest version is Android 6 Marshmallow, which will gradually become available for more and more devices over the coming months.

Android has the largest installed base of all operating systems (OS) of any kind. Android has been the bestselling OS on tablets since 2013, and on smartphones it is dominant by any metric.

Android’s source code is released by Google under open source licenses, although most Android devices ultimately ship with a combination of open source and proprietary software, including proprietary software required for accessing Google services.
