Search engines crawl the Web to see what is there. This task is performed by a piece of software, called acrawler or a spider (or Googlebot, as is the case with Google). Spiders follow links from one page to another and index everything they find on their way.

In search engine optimizationterminology, white hat SEO refers to the usage of optimization strategies, techniques and tactics that focus on a human audience opposed to search engines and completely follows search engine rules and policies.
White Hat SEO is more frequently used by those who intend to make a long-term investment on their website. Also called Ethical SEO.

Search engines are smart, but they still need help. The major engines are always working to improve their technology to crawl the web more deeply and return better results to users.
SEO also helps boost rankings so that content will be placed where searchers will more readily find it. The Internet is becoming increasingly competitive, and those companies who perform SEO will have a decided advantage in visitors and customers.
